Pear brandy, rounded off with honey

The base is a clear Williams pear brandy. Honey is added only afterwards — that is exactly what the label says, and it gives the bottle its second name: Medovina. The honey does more than sweeten; it takes the edge off the spirit and lays a soft layer over the pear.

In the glass

Pale gold in colour, ripe pear on the nose first, with the warm, faintly floral note of honey behind it. The first sip is soft, the fruit stays clearly recognisable, and the finish is long and calm — without the bite of young brandies.

How to serve it

• Neat, lightly chilled at 10–14 °C in a tulip glass — as an aperitif or after a meal.
• On ice with a strip of lemon peel for a lighter summer version.
• Long drink: 4 cl topped with tonic or ginger ale, with a slice of pear.
• With dessert: apple strudel, quark dumplings, or blue cheese with a spoonful of honey.

Behind the brand Aleksić Gružanska nit stands a family distillery from the Gruža region in central Serbia. The name — the thread of Gruža — says what it does: the same handwriting runs through the whole range, from plum brandy to this medovina.
